LISTING GUIDELINES

Last updated: August 30, 2026

NPR Business & Services is a neighborhood-focused directory and community resource created to help residents discover and support businesses, services, and events that are genuinely connected to our local community.

These guidelines explain who may submit a Business or Event listing, what qualifies for the directory, what information may be posted, and how listings may be reviewed or removed.

All listings are also subject to our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.

  1. OUR LOCAL PURPOSE

NPR Business & Services is not intended to be a general advertising, classifieds, lead-generation, or regional business directory.

Our purpose is to help neighbors:

  • Discover businesses owned by people who live in our community
  • Support resident-owned businesses and services
  • Find businesses and services that genuinely serve our neighborhood and immediate Clements Ferry Road community
  • Share neighborhood events and activities
  • Connect with one another in a useful and responsible way

When deciding whether a Business listing belongs on NPR Business & Services, the guiding question is:

“Is this a resident-owned business that our neighbors can genuinely use or support locally?”

  1. PARTICIPATING NEIGHBORHOODS

For Business listing eligibility and neighborhood membership purposes, the neighborhoods currently served by NPR Business & Services are:

  • Nelliefield
  • Peninsula
  • River Reach Pointe
  • River Club Estates
  • St. Thomas Point
  • Wando Pointe
  1. BUSINESS LISTING ELIGIBILITY — THE GOLDEN RULE

To qualify for a Business listing, BOTH of the following requirements must be met.

RULE 1 — RESIDENT OWNERSHIP

The business must be owned or co-owned by a current resident of one of the participating neighborhoods listed above.

Living in the neighborhood does not automatically make every company a resident works for eligible.

Being an employee, salesperson, representative, agent, consultant, contractor, or other worker for an outside company does not make that outside company a neighborhood business.

For example, a resident who works as a salesperson for a golf-cart dealership in North Charleston may not create a Business listing for that dealership simply because the salesperson lives in the neighborhood.

The person submitting a listing may act on behalf of the qualifying owner when authorized, but the BUSINESS itself must meet the resident-ownership requirement.

RULE 2 — LOCAL COMMUNITY SERVICE

The business must genuinely provide products or services that residents of our participating neighborhoods or the immediate Clements Ferry Road community can reasonably use or support.

A business does not necessarily need a storefront inside the neighborhood.

Qualifying businesses may be:

  • Home-based
  • Mobile
  • Remote
  • Online
  • Service-based
  • Operated from another work location

However, the business must still have a genuine connection to serving our local community.

Simply owning a business somewhere else does not make it eligible because the owner happens to live here.

A resident-owned business operating primarily in Charlotte, North Charleston, another city, or another region with no meaningful service to our neighborhood or Clements Ferry Road community would generally not qualify.

  1. HOME-BASED, MOBILE, AND REMOTE BUSINESSES

Home-based or remote businesses are welcome when they meet both Golden Rules.

Examples may include resident-owned:

  • Graphic designers
  • Photographers
  • Tutors
  • Travel professionals
  • Consultants
  • Pet-care providers
  • Babysitters
  • Landscapers
  • Handyman services
  • Mobile detailing businesses
  • Food businesses
  • Artists and makers
  • Home-service providers
  • Other legitimate services neighbors can actually use

For example, a resident-owned travel business may qualify even though the trips being booked are outside South Carolina because the business itself is owned by a resident and provides its service directly to members of our community.

The question is not simply where the work physically takes place.

The question is whether the business is genuinely resident-owned and genuinely available to serve this community.

  1. OUTSIDE EMPLOYERS, SALES REPRESENTATIVES, AND LEAD GENERATION

NPR Business & Services is not intended to provide free advertising for outside employers simply because one of their employees lives in the neighborhood.

Listings generally do not qualify when their primary purpose is to:

  • Generate leads for an outside company the resident does not own
  • Promote an employer located outside our community
  • Prospect neighborhood residents for sales
  • Advertise a regional or national company through a local employee
  • Recruit customers for a dealership, corporation, brokerage, agency, or similar outside business

Employment at a company does not make that company a neighborhood business.

If the resident independently owns or co-owns a separate qualifying business, that business may be considered under the normal Golden Rules.

  1. REAL ESTATE AGENTS AND REAL ESTATE ADVERTISING

Individual Realtors, real estate agents, and similar commission-based real estate representatives are not currently eligible for Business listings.

This rule is intended to prevent the directory from becoming primarily a lead-generation platform for buying and selling real estate.

We may reconsider or create a separate controlled Real Estate category in the future.

The following are also not appropriate Business listings merely because the owner lives in one of our neighborhoods:

  • A house for sale outside our local community
  • A rental property outside our local community
  • A vacation rental located elsewhere
  • A property investment located outside the neighborhood or immediate Clements Ferry Road area
  • Other individual property advertisements

NPR Business & Services is a Business and community directory, not a general real-estate advertising platform.

  1. WHEN A BUSINESS IS UNCLEAR OR BORDERLINE

Not every business fits neatly into one category.

NPR Business & Services may ask for additional information about:

  • Who owns the business
  • Where the owner lives
  • Where the business operates
  • Who the business actually serves
  • The relationship between the person submitting the listing and the business
  • Whether the listing is primarily intended to serve neighbors or generate outside leads

Listings that technically meet part of the eligibility rules but do not appear consistent with the local purpose of the directory may be reviewed individually.

NPR Business & Services reserves the right to approve, decline, reclassify, or remove unusual listings when necessary to protect the neighborhood-focused purpose of the directory.

  1. WHO MAY SUBMIT A BUSINESS LISTING

A Business listing may be submitted by:

  • The qualifying business owner or co-owner
  • A person authorized by the qualifying owner to submit or manage the listing

The underlying business must still satisfy the Resident Ownership and Local Community Service requirements.

Do not submit a business without the owner’s knowledge or permission.

  1. BUSINESS LISTING INFORMATION

Business owners are responsible for providing accurate, current, and truthful information.

This may include:

  • Business name
  • Business description
  • Appropriate category
  • Products or services
  • Contact information
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Website
  • Social media links
  • Business hours
  • Service area
  • Business address when appropriate
  • Logo
  • Photographs
  • Special offers
  • Other relevant information

Do not intentionally misrepresent:

  • Business ownership
  • Business location
  • Qualifications
  • Licensing
  • Insurance
  • Experience
  • Service area
  • Availability
  • Pricing
  • Products or services

Only provide contact information and location information that you are comfortable displaying publicly.

  1. BUSINESSES OPERATED BY OR INVOLVING MINORS

Teenagers may offer legitimate neighborhood services such as:

  • Babysitting
  • Lawn care
  • Pet care
  • Tutoring
  • Yard work
  • Household help
  • Other appropriate neighborhood services

Users under 13 may not independently create or manage an NPR Business & Services account.

Users ages 13 through 17 may use the website only with the knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise listings, messages, transactions, and in-person arrangements involving minors.

Listings involving minors should avoid unnecessarily publishing:

  • Full home addresses
  • School information
  • Detailed schedules
  • Private phone numbers
  • Personal email addresses
  • Other unnecessary identifying information

When appropriate, communication regarding a minor’s services should involve a parent or legal guardian.

  1. EVENT LISTINGS

NPR Business & Services also allows neighborhood members to share local events.

Examples may include:

  • Yard sales
  • Neighborhood gatherings
  • Community meetings
  • Pool parties
  • Golf cart parades
  • Food trucks
  • Lemonade stands
  • Fundraisers
  • Family activities
  • Recreational events
  • Other appropriate neighborhood activities

Events should have a genuine connection to our neighborhoods or immediate Clements Ferry Road community.

The Event section is not intended for unrelated regional advertising or mass promotion of events with no meaningful neighborhood connection.

  1. WHO MAY SUBMIT AN EVENT

An Event should be submitted by:

  • The organizer
  • The host
  • A person authorized by the organizer or host
  • A resident with legitimate permission to share the event

Do not submit private events, private addresses, photographs, or other information without permission.

  1. EVENT INFORMATION

Event information should be accurate and kept current.

This may include:

  • Event name
  • Description
  • Category
  • Date
  • Start and end time
  • Recurrence information
  • Address
  • Contact information
  • Registration link
  • Event website
  • Social media link
  • Images
  • Parking information
  • Rain date
  • Other helpful information

If an Event is canceled, moved, postponed, or materially changed, the person managing the listing should update it as soon as reasonably possible.

Event organizers should use particular care when publishing residential addresses or information involving children.

  1. EVENTS INVOLVING MINORS

Event listings may involve children, teenagers, families, schools, activities, or youth services.

Do not publish unnecessary identifying information about a minor.

Avoid posting information such as:

  • A child’s private phone number
  • Personal email address
  • School schedule
  • Detailed daily routine
  • Unnecessary full names combined with location information
  • Other information that could unnecessarily identify or locate a child

Parents and guardians remain responsible for supervising minors’ participation in events and website interactions.

  1. IMAGES, LOGOS, AND WRITTEN CONTENT

You must have permission to use any:

  • Photograph
  • Logo
  • Graphic
  • Illustration
  • Video
  • Written description
  • Promotional material
  • Other copyrighted or proprietary content

submitted to NPR Business & Services.

Do not upload images or content belonging to another person or business unless you have permission to use them.

Users should use particular care when posting images containing minors or private residences.

  1. PROHIBITED LISTING CONTENT

Business and Event listings may not contain or promote:

  • False or intentionally misleading information
  • Fraud or scams
  • Illegal products, services, or activity
  • Sexually explicit or exploitative content
  • Nudity or other inappropriate material
  • Threats
  • Harassment
  • Hate or unlawful discriminatory content
  • Impersonation
  • Stolen or copyrighted material used without permission
  • Malicious links
  • Malware
  • Spam
  • Unrelated advertising
  • Unsafe or deceptive websites
  • Personal information published without permission
  • Content that endangers or exploits a minor
  • Other content that violates our Terms and Conditions
  1. SPECIAL OFFERS AND PROMOTIONS

Qualifying businesses may include current:

  • Discounts
  • Promotions
  • Free estimates
  • Neighborhood specials
  • Limited-time offers

Offers must be truthful and current.

Businesses should remove or update an offer when it expires or is no longer available.

Special offers do not change the normal Business eligibility rules.

  1. FEATURED LISTINGS

NPR Business & Services may identify certain Businesses or Events as Featured.

Featured placement may be:

  • Selected administratively
  • Used to highlight community content
  • Offered as part of a future promotional or paid option

Featured status does not mean that NPR Business & Services endorses, guarantees, licenses, background-checks, or verifies the Business, Event, owner, organizer, or service provider.

  1. BUSINESS REVIEWS AND RATINGS

Business pages may allow registered users to leave reviews and ratings.

Reviews should reflect genuine experiences or honest opinions.

Reviews may not contain:

  • Personal attacks
  • Harassment
  • Threats
  • Knowingly false statements
  • Private personal information
  • Spam
  • Unrelated advertising
  • Sexually explicit or inappropriate content
  • Fraudulent reviews
  • Reviews submitted in exchange for compensation without appropriate disclosure
  • Other prohibited content

A disagreement with a business or an unfavorable opinion is not, by itself, a reason for removing a legitimate review.

  1. EVENT COMMENTS AND UPDATES

Event pages may allow registered members to leave comments and helpful updates.

Event comments may be used for information such as:

  • Parking updates
  • Weather reminders
  • Items attendees should bring
  • Event changes
  • Helpful neighborhood information
  • Questions and answers

Event comments should remain relevant, respectful, and appropriate.

Event pages may use comments without star ratings because the purpose is community discussion and useful updates rather than rating the event.

  1. PRIVATE MESSAGING

Registered members may be able to communicate through private messaging.

Messaging must be used responsibly.

Users may not use messaging to:

  • Harass another member
  • Threaten another person
  • Send sexual or exploitative material
  • Inappropriately contact minors
  • Conduct fraud or scams
  • Impersonate another person
  • Send spam
  • Send malicious links
  • Request inappropriate personal information
  • Facilitate illegal activity

Because both adults and minors may be members of the community, all members should use appropriate judgment when communicating.

Adults must never use website messaging to pursue sexual or exploitative communication with minors.

Minors should involve a parent or guardian before sharing sensitive information, entering into service arrangements, or arranging in-person meetings.

  1. REPORTING A BUSINESS, EVENT, MESSAGE, OR OTHER CONTENT

Users may be able to report:

  • Business listings
  • Event listings
  • Inappropriate content
  • Private messages
  • Other policy or safety concerns

Reasons for reporting may include:

  • Incorrect or misleading information
  • Spam
  • Fraud
  • Harassment
  • Threats
  • Explicit or inappropriate content
  • Impersonation
  • Safety concerns
  • Concerns involving a minor
  • Private information posted without permission
  • Other violations of website policies

Reports should be made in good faith.

Knowingly filing false or malicious reports to harm another user or business may itself violate our policies.

A report does not guarantee that a listing, message, comment, or account will be removed.

  1. BLOCKING MEMBERS

The messaging system may allow users to block another member.

Blocking may prevent or restrict future direct communication through supported messaging features.

Blocking does not guarantee that users will never encounter each other elsewhere on the website or outside NPR Business & Services.

  1. APPROVAL AND MODERATION

Business and Event listings may be reviewed before or after publication.

NPR Business & Services may:

  • Verify or question listing eligibility
  • Request additional information
  • Request corrections
  • Edit formatting for clarity or consistency
  • Move a listing to a more appropriate category
  • Reject incomplete listings
  • Reject listings that fail the Golden Rules
  • Reject misleading or inappropriate listings
  • Remove prohibited content
  • Suspend or remove outdated listings
  • Restrict messaging
  • Suspend or terminate accounts
  • Take reasonable action in response to safety concerns

Approval of a listing does not mean NPR Business & Services endorses, guarantees, licenses, background-checks, or independently verifies the Business, Event, owner, organizer, or user.

  1. KEEPING LISTINGS CURRENT

Business owners and Event organizers are responsible for keeping their information accurate.

Business listings should be updated when there are changes to:

  • Ownership
  • Contact information
  • Business hours
  • Products or services
  • Website or social-media links
  • Address
  • Service area
  • Special offers
  • Operating status

Event listings should be updated when there are changes to:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Location
  • Contact information
  • Cancellation
  • Postponement
  • Registration information
  • Other important Event details
  1. CHANGES IN BUSINESS ELIGIBILITY

A Business that qualified when originally submitted may later become ineligible.

Examples include:

  • The resident owner sells the business
  • The qualifying owner moves out of the participating neighborhoods
  • The business stops serving the local community
  • The listing becomes primarily an advertisement for an outside company
  • The nature of the business materially changes

NPR Business & Services may review continued eligibility and remove or modify listings that no longer meet the directory’s local purpose.

  1. PERSONAL SAFETY

NPR Business & Services is a neighborhood directory and community platform.

We do not guarantee:

  • Identity
  • Age
  • Residency
  • Background
  • Licensing
  • Insurance
  • Qualifications
  • References
  • Trustworthiness
  • Personal safety

Users are responsible for using reasonable judgment when:

  • Hiring someone
  • Providing services
  • Allowing someone into a home
  • Attending an event
  • Meeting another member
  • Exchanging money
  • Sharing personal information

Parents and guardians should supervise minors’ use of listings, messaging, transactions, and in-person interactions.

If someone appears to be in immediate danger, contact emergency services or appropriate law enforcement rather than relying only on website reporting tools.

  1. CORRECTIONS, REPORTS, AND REMOVAL REQUESTS

Whenever available, use the Report option on the Business, Event, or message involved.

For other questions, corrections, safety concerns, or removal requests, contact:

support@npr.digitaldesigncreations.com

Please include enough information to identify the Business, Event, account, or content involved.

  1. FINAL BUSINESS ELIGIBILITY TEST

When there is uncertainty about whether a Business belongs in NPR Business & Services, we apply the following basic test:

  1. Is the Business owned or co-owned by a resident of Nelliefield, Peninsula, River Reach Pointe, River Club Estates, St. Thomas Point, or Wando Pointe?

AND

  1. Does the Business genuinely provide a product or service that residents of our neighborhoods or the immediate Clements Ferry Road community can reasonably use or support?

If either answer is clearly no, the Business will normally not qualify for a listing.

Additional factors may be considered in unusual circumstances, but the neighborhood purpose of the directory will remain the primary consideration.

  1. CHANGES TO THESE GUIDELINES

These Listing Guidelines may be updated as NPR Business & Services grows, adds features, or learns more about what best serves the community.

The current version will be posted on this page with an updated date.
